A natural Smoky Quartz point featuring visible black tourmaline (schorl) inclusions, sourced from the Zomba District of southern Malawi. The combination of two distinct minerals preserved within a single specimen from this locality makes this a particularly compelling collector piece.
Geological profile:
The alkaline pegmatites of the Chilwa Province create the precise geochemical conditions for both quartz and tourmaline to crystallise within the same growth environment. The schorl inclusions — iron-rich, black tourmaline — formed before or alongside the quartz host, becoming naturally encased as the silica solution continued to crystallise around them. The smoky colouration results from natural irradiation acting on aluminium impurities within the crystal lattice over deep geological time. Two distinct mineralogical processes preserved in a single specimen.
